Nina Martin
Composer
About
Nina Martin is an award winning composer, with her debut premiere by Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra Musicians aged 16, “Martin is a young composer of whom we shall hear much more in the years to come; indeed, young as she is, she already has an impressive past” (Glyn Pursglove, Seen and Heard International). Winner of the NYBBGB Young Composer Competition (2025), Nina Martins creative work lies in the intersection of climate activism and musical storytelling - “the bucolic canvas of Betws-y-Coed’ by Nina Martin brought a darkened beauty out of a tender landscape” (Iwan Fox. 4 Bars Rest). In 2027, her debut orchestral work will be premiered by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, as part of BBC NOW Composition: Wales, a composition that turns to face the effects of noise pollution on whale populations in the ocean. Nina Martin studied as a Royal Philharmonic Society Beneficiary at the Grieg Academy in Bergen (Norway), as well as at the RNCM (Manchester) and RWCMD (Cardiff). Nina Martin is also a saxophonist and has won prizes including the Howarth of London Single Reed Prize (2025), Sandbach Young Musician of the Year Competition and Wind Plus Chamber Prize (2025). As an environmentalist, Martin created the World Environment Series (2026) which included the ‘Listen to the Earth’ Concert, and an Art Exhibition. Martin has also worked with Beacon’s Cymru to create the Echo Project, a project facilitating creative responses to the climate crisis, and she is an EarthSonic Local Fellow, soon to be featured on the EarthSonic’s new Album.
